Walmart Plus members can now enjoy a free benefit as the company has added the Paramount+ streaming service. This is part of the offer for any membership at Walmart+, and it can be used at no cost.
This means that even with the new streaming service Paramount Plus, the subscription fee for Walmart Plus will not increase and will remain the same. With the added benefit, all subscribers can start streaming thousands of shows and live sporting events through Paramount's streaming.
According to Fox Business, Paramount Plus availability is effective immediately, so all Walmart Plus members need to do is create an account with Paramount + Essential Plan, and streaming will begin immediately. The retail giant said this benefit is most expected by its members, and it is considered a direct competitor to Amazon Prime.
Membership to Amazon Prime also offers several benefits, including the Amazon Video service, which comes with free gaming and viewing of original programming. However, Amazon Prime recently made an increase in its membership percentage and now costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year. The company said the increase was the result of inflation.
In any case, the rates for Walmart's program that offers discounts on gas and free shipping on items will still be $12.95 per month or $98 per year. Even with the new Paramount+ streaming benefit, these rates still apply.
“Today's kick-off marks a brand new chapter for Walmart+ and the opportunities available to our existing and new members,” said Chris Cracchiolo, senior vice president and general manager of Walmart Plus, in a press release. “It's pretty simple for us – our Walmart+ members asked for a streaming benefit, and we absolutely delivered with Paramount+. This is just one more example of how Walmart+ can add value to our members' lives day after day.”
Paramount Streaming's chief strategy officer and chief business development officer, Jeff Shultz, also said: "We are incredibly excited to today officially offer the unparalleled Paramount+ entertainment portfolio to Walmart+ members and by bundling Paramount+ into the Walmart+ membership program, we can expand the reach from Paramount+ to connect fans who have been buying our brands at Walmart for years with the content they love to stream."
