Walmart and UnitedHealth Group signed a 10-year deal to use their complementary resources and expertise to bring people affordable health services with improved outcomes and a renewed patient experience.
The program will launch next year with 15 Walmart Health locations in Florida and Georgia. According to a press release issued Wednesday (Sept. 7) Optum, a UnitedHealth Group company, will facilitate the process and help Walmart Health physicians use analytics and decision support tools.
Optum will show clinicians how to use its support tools to "deliver comprehensive, value-based care that can help drive positive health outcomes for seniors and Medicare beneficiaries," according to the release.

UnitedHealth's capabilities complement the current offerings of Walmart Health centers, which use a team-based delivery model for care. The partnership with United Health will help Walmart Health transition more quickly to "value-based care by enabling clinicians to focus on patient outcomes," the release said.
“We are on track to transform healthcare and connect more people to the right care at the right time — at a reasonable cost,” said Walmart CEO Doug McMillon in the press release. "This partnership puts patients at the center of healthcare by leveraging the strength and complementary skills of our two companies to accelerate access to quality care."

The partnership includes a co-branded Medicare Advantage plan in Georgia, UnitedHealthcare® Medicare Advantage Walmart Flex (HMO-POS), beginning January 2023. Walmart Health Virtual Care will also network for commercial members in the UnitedHealthcare's Choice Plus PPO plan. planned in January 2023.
