NEW YORK CITY, New York: Walmart and healthcare giant UnitedHealth Group have announced a 10-year partnership to jointly provide virtual healthcare services for all age groups, as well as preventive care for people 65 and older.
The partnership represents Walmart's latest efforts to increase its influence in the healthcare industry and could enable it to better compete with CVS Health and Walgreens Boots Alliance.
In a research note, Evercore ISI analysts Mike Newshel and Elizabeth Anderson said that under the partnership, Walmart's clinics could treat customers who are members of UnitedHealth Medicare Advantage, while UnitedHealth will have access to the footprint of the largest U.S. retailer and a location to register more. people.
The partnership between Walmart and UnitedHealth, expected to kick off in January, will focus on common problems that affect older Americans, such as heart disease and diabetes.
The group is expected to initially offer health services at 15 Walmart Health locations in Georgia and Florida.
Medicare Advantage plans are administered by private insurers and are an alternative to the original Medicare, the federal government's health insurance plan for seniors, and the partnership will initially exclude those covered by the original Medicare.
